SCOPE OF PRACTICE

Assist the patient with personal care and activities of daily living, and safety supervision, chart in the medical record, and report to the agency RN Supervisor.

Personal hygiene, toileting, and incontinence care.

Bathing, shaving, hair care, and routine skin care.

Oral hygiene including denture care.

Dressing and undressing.

Assistance with mobility: ambulation, transfers, positioning, and prescribed range of motion exercises.

Prevention of pressure ulcers.

Apply non-sterile, dry dressings to intact skin surfaces, or may reinforce an existing dressing.

Empty or change Foley catheter bag.

Empty or change Colostomy bag.

Care of hearing aides, glasses, and prosthetic devices.

Nail care (filing OK, but no cutting nails).

Obtain and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respirations.

Meal planning, preparation, serving, and feeding.

Measure and record "in-take" and "out-put."

Remind or assist with pre-poured medications.

Light housekeeping, maintain a clean and healthy environment.

Home safety, emergency preparedness, CPR, and Heimich maneuver.

May drive and / or escort on errands, shopping, doctor appointments
